Students from INTI’s Center of Art & Design (ICAD) won nine awards at the Kancil x Scooler Awards 2024, one of Malaysia’s most prestigious creative competitions. Recognised as a benchmark of excellence in the advertising and design industry, the awards celebrate outstanding talent across various creative fields.
Dr Gan Kia Hui articulated the role of practical applications in learning, explaining, “By bridging theory with real-world experiences, we prepare students to excel in a competitive, global job market.”
Hotline Help by Nivaen A/L Inthiraratnam won silver in the Static Visual Aesthetics – Character Design category.
Etheldred Vivien Dumpangol, senior lecturer at ICAD and lead representative for the competition, described the Kancil Awards as “the Oscars for the advertising community and other industries.” She noted that winning at the Kancils improves students’ industry visibility and strengthens their portfolios.
Support from lecturers and industry professionals played a key role in the students’ success. Many of the winning entries began as semester assignments, with additional effort invested to refine them for competition. “We even invited industry partners from advertising companies to pre-judge our students’ artworks before submission,” she added.
NVACCINE, created by Chong Jie Sze, Ning Pok Jin, and Yahya Auliya, won bronze in Best Film & Audio Craft – Editing.
ICAD students secured one silver, two bronze, and six merit awards. Nivaen A/L Inthiraratnam won silver in the Static Visual Aesthetics – Character Design category for Hotline Help. Bronze awards went to two groups—one in the Scoolers Kancil Real Brief Challenge and another in Best Film & Audio Craft – Editing. Additional merit awards were earned in Best Design Collaterals, Best Print & Poster: Campaign, and Static Visual Aesthetics – Illustration Mixed Media.
These achievements reinforce ICAD’s role as a hub for emerging creative talent. With the guidance of their lecturers and industry collaborators, students have turned classroom projects into award-winning work. Their success at the Kancil x Scooler Awards reflects both their skill and readiness to compete at a professional level
