Students at INTI International University recently took centre stage to showcase their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to sustainability at Environment Day 3.0, an event that brought together interactive stalls, lively performances, and activities focused on promoting eco-friendly practices. Organised by Foundation and Bachelor’s Degree students from the Faculty of Business and Communication (FBC) and the INTI IU Environment Club, the event was held in the Multipurpose Hall and featured a wide range of creative, sustainable solutions to reduce environmental impact.
A booth led by Jennifer Daniel Anthony, a Bachelor of Mass Communication student, offered sustainable household products like bamboo tissues, eco-friendly face masks, and biodegradable plastics. “We’re offering practical, everyday items in sustainable versions because people use these products daily. Introducing them to eco-friendly alternatives can help inspire better choices in their routines,” she explained. Guided by FBC lecturer Dr. Sriganeshvarun Nagaraj, Jennifer shared that the experience deepened her understanding of sustainability. “Being eco-friendly isn’t just about selling products for profit; it’s about adopting these practices ourselves. It’s rewarding to share this knowledge and inspire more sustainable habits.”

Another stall was run by Albee Tee Zi Xuan, a Bachelor of Business Administration student, who used repurposed fabrics to create custom scrunchies. “It is a good initiative to reuse fabrics into wearables,” she remarked. Her team allowed visitors to select fabrics for personalised scrunchies, creating a unique hands-on experience that highlighted the value of upcycling.
Other stalls featured reusable tote bags, eco-friendly lunch boxes, natural cosmetics, and preloved clothing items, demonstrating the students’ dedication to reducing waste and promoting sustainable options.
The Upcycling Fashion competition, “Scraps to Style,” held in collaboration with Suri and Koyak.co, challenged students to transform discarded materials into stylish outfits.
Held on 23 October 2024, Environment Day 3.0 also included live music and educational presentations that energised the crowd. A highlight was the Upcycling Fashion competition, “Scraps to Style,” in collaboration with Suri and Koyak.co, which invited students to repurpose discarded materials into stylish outfits. This creative initiative emphasised that sustainability can be both imaginative and commercially viable.

Upcycling has been a key mission for INTI’s Environment Club, which has regularly organised fabric collections since 2020. In July, the club partnered with Life Line Clothing Malaysia to collect 1,270 kg of used fabrics from various places of worship around Nilai, Salak Tinggi, and Seremban. “Upcycling has been a core mission of the INTI IU Environment Club since 2020,” shared Klara Arokiyasamy, lecturer and supervisor of Environment Day 3.0. “With support from partners like Suri and Koyak.co, we aim to raise awareness about responsible disposal and reuse of fabrics within INTI and the broader community. Through these collaborations, we hope to inspire more individuals to recognise the impact of sustainable choices on our environment.”
The success of Environment Day 3.0 underscored the students’ passion for environmental stewardship and commitment to building an eco-conscious community at INTI. Through these creative and entrepreneurial efforts, they demonstrated that sustainability is more than just a concept; it’s a call to action. This event not only inspired attendees to embrace greener choices but also highlighted the role of innovative solutions in shaping a sustainable future
