Students Go Behind the Scenes at SEMICON 2026

July 3, 2026

For 94 students from INTI International College Subang, SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026 offered a different kind of learning environment. Instead of observing the industry from a classroom, they supported the operations of a major regional technology event and worked alongside professionals from across the sector.

Held from 5 to 7 May 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur, the three-day event brought together policymakers, manufacturers, researchers, investors, and technology leaders from across Asia, the United States, and Europe under the theme “Transform Tomorrow.”

As a longstanding partner of SEMI, an organisation that supports the growing semiconductor supply chain, INTI International College Subang once again supported the event by providing students with hands-on exposure to a fast-paced international industry setting.

The student ambassadors came from programmes within the School of Business and Communication (SBC), including the Diploma in Business, the Diploma in Financial Informatics, and the Diploma in Mass Communication. They were also joined by SBC alumni from the Centre of the University of Hertfordshire, the Centre of American Education, and the Centre of Australian Degree Programmes.

During the event, students were assigned to different areas of operations, including registration, VIP assistance, stage operations, social media activities, exhibitor engagement, and delegate coordination.

These responsibilities gave them a closer understanding of what happens behind the scenes at a large-scale international exhibition. They also had to practise communication, teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving in a setting where tasks had to be handled in real time.

For Thang Yu Kuan, a Diploma in Business student at INTI International College Subang, the experience showed how classroom learning can be applied in an actual event environment.

“Participating in SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026 allowed me to apply what I learned in class in a real event environment. Through my role in preparing promotional materials and presentation slides, I gained a better understanding of the importance of planning, creativity, and teamwork in ensuring the success of an event,” he said.

Another Diploma in Business student, Jared Koay Jun Hock, served as Stage MC for the NextGen Hub Stage. This role placed him in front of an international audience and challenged him to manage responsibilities under pressure.

“Serving as a Stage MC challenged me to adapt to a fast-paced international event environment. The experience strengthened my public speaking and communication skills while building my confidence in handling responsibilities and embracing new challenges,” he said.

Beyond their assigned duties, students also had the opportunity to interact with exhibitors, delegates, and professionals from the semiconductor, artificial intelligence, advanced electronics, and smart manufacturing sectors. These interactions gave them insight into emerging technologies, industry expectations, and potential career pathways.

Participating alumni also viewed SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026 as a platform to expand their professional networks and stay connected with developments shaping the future of technology and business.

Hew Fui Mun, Dean of the School of Business and Communication, said opportunities such as SEMICON Southeast Asia help students understand how classroom concepts are applied in professional environments.

“Experiences like SEMICON allow students to see how the concepts they learn in class are applied in real professional environments. They gain practical exposure, build confidence, and develop the skills needed to thrive in today’s evolving workplace,” she said.
