The five-day digital career fair, a collaboration between INTI and GTI Media, saw 151 participants during the opening ceremony which included Chong Kok Wai, Interim Chief Executive Officer of INTI International University & Colleges, and Isaac Hee, Managing Director of GTI Media. Among the activities lined up during the digital career fair included Employer Career Sessions, Virtual Interview Sessions, and Industry Employability Webinars that allowed students to understand the trends and skills required for the future of work post-pandemic. Twenty-two sessions were conducted daily, with an average participation from 615 students each day.

In his speech, Kok Wai shared that a survey conducted by LinkedIn revealed more than 67,000 people in Malaysia lost their jobs between January and July last year due to the pandemic’s impact on business activities.

“While the pandemic has yet to show signs of slowing down, the survey also revealed that 15 top companies in Malaysia continue to provide opportunities to job seekers,” he said, adding that five of the 15 companies are among the 107 reputable employers joining the digital career fair.

Kok Wai, who lauded the collaboration between INTI’s Career Services team and GTI Media, said universities need to continue preparing students for the big world of employment.

Chong Kok Wai, Interim CEO of INTI International University & Colleges, lauded the collaboration between INTI’s Career Services team and GTI Media during a time when physical events are restricted due to the pandemic.

“At INTI, students are exposed to real, hands-on work experience while still studying. And this is only possible through our collaboration with the industry, which allowed us to develop employer projects, enabling students to work on actual business case studies and industry-relevant problems.

“Such projects benefit students both personally and professionally, helping them to better understand and apply concepts they learned in the classroom to real scenarios. These are experiences that no book can provide. A big thank you to the many industry partners who have continuously worked alongside INTI to produce highly employable and job-ready graduates,” he said.

Meanwhile, Isaac expressed his appreciation to all the exhibitors, recruiters, and employers taking part in the event.

“We realise that during this time when things seem so uncertain and volatile, investing in young talent definitely seems like a much bigger risk than before. The fact that you are here is a very encouraging sign to all of us, and we do appreciate that even during these particular times you are willing to sacrifice your time and energy to invest in developing and the on-boarding of young talent who will one day become the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

Isaac also acknowledged that students, graduates, and soon-to-be graduates are embarking on a career journey during an interesting time. He said they were on the verge of a brave new world in which they have the opportunity to be active architects and active contributors to shaping the world that will emerge once this pandemic is over.

“At this moment in time, we may not know what this world may look like or what to expect or when it will be over, but if there is one thing that we can say for sure is that it will pass one day and the one thing that the pandemic can never kill is our human spirit,” he reminded the audience during his speech during the opening ceremony.
