At just 19 years old, Eng Ying Sin, a student pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology 4+0 in collaboration with Southern New Hampshire University, USA, programme at INTI International College Penang (IICP), has already proven himself to be a formidable competitor. Recently, he secured a silver medal in the Men’s Taijijian event at SUKMA 2024, Malaysia’s premier multi-sport event. This achievement not only highlights his skill in wushu but also reflects the nurturing environment cultivated at IICP.
Eng Ying Sin, currently pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology 4+0 in collaboration with Southern New Hampshire University, USA, programme at INTI International College Penang, showcased his mastery in the Men’s Taijijian event at SUKMA 2024, earning a silver medal. His performance demonstrated the grace and precision of wushu.
Ying Sin’s accomplishment at SUKMA 2024 is the culmination of years of hard work and commitment. Reflecting on his success, he shared, “Winning the silver medal at SUKMA 2024 feels surreal and is a tremendous honour. The support from my peers and mentors at IICP truly motivated me throughout my journey. This accomplishment reflects the collective effort of everyone who supported me.”

Reaching this level of success was no easy feat. Ying Sin’s path was marked by rigorous training and meticulous preparation. “Preparing for SUKMA required years of focused training, both physically and mentally,” he explained. “My coach and I worked tirelessly to perfect each movement, paying close attention to timing, form, and balance. I’m grateful for the guidance and support I received.”
His passion for wushu, especially Taijijian, stems from the sport’s unique blend of artistry and martial prowess. Ying Sin noted, “Wushu’s artistry and martial prowess captivated me. Taijijian, particularly, fascinated me with its graceful balance between fluidity and control. This equilibrium drove me to focus deeply on mastering it.”
The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology 4+0 in collaboration with Southern New Hampshire University, USA, programme at IICP has also played a crucial role in Ying Sin’s development as an athlete. “The programme has sharpened my mental focus and resilience, which are key elements for success in wushu,” he remarked. “Understanding the psychological aspects of performance has given me an edge in staying calm under pressure.”

He credited the excellent training spaces and the supportive environment from staff and peers as essential in balancing his studies and wushu training effectively. “IICP’s flexible scheduling and encouragement from lecturers made it possible for me to manage my time between academics and athletics,” he added.
