INTI Students Draw RM580,000 in Scholarships from Universities Abroad

June 16, 2011

High recognition for educational excellence came INTI International College Penang (IICP)’s way in the form of over half a million ringgit in scholarships for its bright and deserving students.

The offers by US and Australian universities, worth more than twice the amount put forward last year, will enable recipients at IICP to pursue their studies at prestigious institutions overseas.

Alyssa Ong Sui Jing and Chua Weizhi Shaun lead the pack by securing full scholarships worth USD 21,500 each from the University of Kansas. Aside from these, between the two of them they have received offers exceeding USD 61,300 from other leading American universities.

Eight other IICP students were offered a total of USD 84,788 to pursue their studies at various universities in the US, and one student received AUD 4,000 to study in Australia.

INTI receives the largest amount of US scholarship offers each year from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Drake University, Mississippi State University, Oklahoma State University, California State University – Fresno, and Iowa State University, just to name a few. Students transferring from INTI also pay in-state tuition fees at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and University of Central Arkansas. This is testament to the fine quality of students and the high standards of education which form their foundation at INTI.

INTI’s extensive list of colleges and universities in the United States for credit transfer and its track record of sending the most number of students to America for higher education mean that its American University Program (AUP) is the most popular program of its kind in Malaysia. More than 300 US and Canadian universities and several universities in Australia and the UK accept credits earned through INTI’s AUP. Many of them provide scholarships to transferring students.

INTI also offers its own series of competitive, merit and achievement-based awards for Malaysian students to undertake studies across multiple disciplines at its campuses. The INTI-Laureate Merit Award is a scholarship for students with outstanding academic performance while those with strong leadership qualities and have been active in serving their schools and community can apply for the INTI Leadership X-Cellence Scholarship. INTI also provides aid to students who excel in sports under the INTI Sports X-Cellence Award.

“At INTI, the value of education is measured not just by the merits of academic achievement but more importantly, we emphasize on a well-rounded learning experience through sports and community service,” said Dr Michael Yap, Chief Executive of INTI International College Penang. “Beyond this, ensuring the employability of our graduates is also part of our endeavour, through our ongoing initiatives of bringing industry into the classroom that will help students adapt seamlessly to the real working environment and be assets to their employers.”

Students of INTI benefit not only from its 25 years of experience and strong track-record, but also gain from the global synergy and resources that Laureate International Universities provides. INTI is part of Laureate, the world’s largest private education network with a presence in 28 countries, with more than 60 accredited universities and 130 campuses, serving more than 650,000 students globally.
