The floods which struck various parts of Malaysia in December saw many good Samaritans rise to the occasion to help ease the burden of those affected, including those from the INTI community.
During a time when people and the economy are slowly trying to recover from the impact of COVID-19, the natural disaster hit many families hard as it damaged their homes, belongings, and even their businesses. If there ever was a time when Malaysians needed to come together to support one another, this was one of those times.
INTI International University & Colleges donated 50 bed frames, 50 mattresses and 50 chairs to the Majlis Belia India Malaysia.
INTI International University & Colleges Chief Executive Officer Chong Kok Wai said INTI donated cleaning detergents, personal hygiene kits, bed frames, mattresses, furniture, and electrical appliances to several beneficiary parties including the Majlis Belia India Malaysia, as well as residents of Kampung Batu 21, Sungai Lui and Sri Muda, Shah Alam.
“Over 200 bed frames and mattresses were handed over to the flood victims from various localities. As an organization that educates, nurtures, and instils empathy and compassion, we came together to extend help during this challenging period when communities are still grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

Besides their contributions to these flood victims, the INTI family also joined hands to help their own colleagues who were impacted by the disaster. Fund collections carried out internally managed to accumulate over RM30,000 to assist the families of 20 INTI employees.
In addition to financial assistance, students and representatives from the Student Services Department (SSD) and Administration & Facilities Management (AFM) from various INTI campuses worked on the ground as well, going the extra mile to help clean the home of staff and other flood victims in the Sri Muda neighbourhood.

“We saw Malaysians from all walks of life supporting one another during these hard times and it sends us a reminder of our purpose here today. We all have a responsibility towards the larger community. I hope the small contributions of the INTI family made a difference to those affected and lifted a little bit of the weight off their shoulders,” concluded Kok Wai.
