“The one constant in life is change. That doesn’t mean we ever get used to it or fully embrace it, though,” began Dr. Reza who was born and raised in Iran, but currently resides in Malaysia with his family.

“Sometimes we get so caught up in fighting change that we put off dealing with it. Denial is a powerful force, and it protects us in many ways. However, stepping outside of it and saying to yourself, ‘Things are changing, and it is okay’, can be less stressful than putting it off,” he added.

During the 90-minute session which saw the participation of 130 people, Dr. Reza said change is inevitable and people will inherit new responsibilities at work, experience trials in marriage, or face shifting roles in life.

“Even positive changes like a promotion, birth or adoption and moving into a new home can cause inner turmoil. From personal shifts to a changing political climate, adjusting to a new normal can be challenging. You may feel a mix of emotions ranging from joy to sadness and depression. With nearly every kind of change, stress is part of the equation. Trouble is, when you’re stressed, the pillars of healthy living – eating well, exercise, sleep and social time tend to fall off your priority list. There are better approaches to navigate through these tumultuous times with various tips,” he said.

Dr. Reza emphasized on taking time to reflect when facing changes. With today’s jam-packed schedules, most people don’t take time to mark or mourn what they’re losing before diving into something new. He reminded the participants to give their thoughts a voice rather than numbing feelings of sadness with new distractions.

“Write in a journal, talk to a trusted friend or make an appointment with a therapist. You might even consider honouring the loss with a scrapbook, quilt, poem, or painting,” said Dr. Reza whose book titled InControlshares a systematic approach on how to take complete control of your life and career.

Being his first book, InControl was the result of 20 years of study and ongoing work with individuals from different fields and stages of life. Dr. Reza has also shared his unique and inspiring ideas on personal growth and leadership with organization like McDonald’s, PwC, KPMG, L’Oréal, DHL, AIA, and Samsung. It has also resulted in the formation of the InControl Movement.

Dr. Reza has broad industry experience with expertise in strategic human resources, business transformation, strategic alignment and planning, professional leadership, coaching for managers and executives, and communication skills. His ability to quickly analyze key business drivers and produce exceptional results within a short period of time has proven to be an asset for each organization that he has been a part of[1].

“Give yourself a break. In a time of change, you may feel a little out of control. You may feel like you are not living up to your expectations for yourself. Remember that you are allowed to do less than what is humanly possible. Nothing says you must function at 100% all the time. People make mistakes, it’s one of the great things about being human. It’s learning from the mistakes that really counts. Think about it like this, there are no mistakes, only good stories for later. Make a point to incorporate more laughter and fun into your life,” concluded Dr. Reza.

At the end of the session, he gave away 10 copies of InControl to students who immediately commented and subscribed to his YouTube page, Dr. Reza Abraham.
