Professor Walter Wong Takes the Reins as the New Vice-Chancellor of INTI International University

The ongoing initiative to transform a homegrown university into a formidable world-class provider of higher education in Malaysia and the region, has now reached a new level with the appointment of Emeritus Professor Walter Wong as Vice-Chancellor by INTI International University (INTI IU).

 

As the new Vice-Chancellor of INTI IU, Professor Wong brings with him over 40 years of experience as a practicing engineer, researcher and academic who has worked, conducted research and taught in education institutions in Australia, the United Kingdom, Norway, the United States, Papua New Guinea and Malaysia.

 

He has published 170 articles in refereed journals, conference proceeding papers, and research reports to date, and has been successful in acquiring in the excess of RM60 million worth of research grants from industry, government, and universities. Professionally, he holds a number of fellowships in several professional engineering institutions, and has served on various professional and academic boards.

 

In October 1998, Professor Wong was conferred the esteemed title of Professor of Emeritus by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia in recognition of his outstanding contribution to scholarship and academic leadership. Six years later, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree by the University of Vudal (UOV), in recognition of his scholarship and distinguished service to East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea.

 

Prior to his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of INTI International University on 6 December 2010, Professor Wong was Deputy President (Academic) at the Monash University, Sunway campus.

 

Professor Wong received his primary and secondary education in Kuala Lumpur before continuing his tertiary studies in Melbourne, Australia. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University Birmingham, England.
