INTI’s Chief Academic Officer Wins Blackboard Catalyst Award

October 16, 2018

Dr Malini Eliatamby, Chief Academic Officer, INTI International University & Colleges, was named among the winners of the 2018 Blackboard Catalyst Awards in Asia for Leading Change. The award ceremony, which honours institutions who are at the forefront of educational innovation, took place at Blackboard’s annual Teaching and Learning Conference in Singapore on 9th October 2018.

Founded in 2005 by education technology leader Blackboard Inc., the annual Catalyst Awards recognise and honour innovation and excellence in the Blackboard global community of practice, where millions of educators and learners work every day to redefine what is possible when leveraging technology. Winners are selected by a cross-functional team of Blackboard experts.

Blackboard is the leading provider of learner success-focused technology solutions and services. Its product portfolio is unmatched in the marketplace, spanning teaching and learning, analytics, community engagement, campus transactions and security solutions as well as student services.

The Award for Leading Change recognises campuses who have developed and implemented high impact educational strategies that scale. Awardees will have developed practices and technologies that have had a measurable effect on learning outcomes, student performance, and academic progression. The Blackboard Catalyst Award for Leading Change also recognises institutions that actively promote the widespread adoption of innovative strategies with the potential to increase rates of student success nationwide.

Under Dr Malini’s leadership, INTI has been utilising Blackboard Learn, Blackboard’s Learning Management System (LMS), as a systematic means to engage with students across its six campuses throughout Peninsula and East Malaysia. Blackboard Learn facilitates hybrid learning (combining both conventional and digital learning), so that students can continue to engage in discussions, obtain information and prepare for their assignments beyond the classroom and through the touch of a button. INTI has also optimised the usage of Blackboard Analytics which helps faculty to identify students at risk and provide early intervention, coaching and support to help more students succeed in their education journey.

Through the usage of Blackboard Collaborate, an online collaborative learning solution that facilitates student engagement, INTI also offers a full suite of online and blended programmes for working adults. This includes INTI’s Diploma in Business Management, Flexible Learning, Bachelor of Business, Learning Simplified and Master of Business Administration, Learning Simplified programmes – through which working professionals can continue to build their competencies and knowledge and add value to their careers.

Dr Malini shares, “I am grateful to receive this award on behalf of INTI. Over the last few years, we have collaborated closely with Blackboard in reinventing our educational offerings and keeping abreast with the needs of both students and faculty. Innovation and education go hand in hand, and as educators in the 21st century, we must explore new means of engaging with students, of meeting them on the platforms they work on best – such as web and mobile applications – and in seamlessly providing learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom. These tools have helped us change the way we teach and learn, improved our insights into our students and brought INTI’s education offerings into the modern, digital world.”

“Blackboard is proud to recognise this year’s Catalyst Award winners for their commitment to transforming the learning experience through technology and innovative practices,” said Bill Ballhaus, Chairman, CEO and President of Blackboard. “We look forward to continuing to work with these educators and institutions to support the success of all students.”
