INTI College Sabah (ICS) organised an industry visit to the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in July to provide its students the opportunity to gain knowledge from one of the big players in the business events and hospitality industry.
Students from INTI College Sabah’s School of Business gained valuable experience from the industry visit to the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), one of the big players in the business events and hospitality industry.
Twenty diploma and degree students from the School of Business took part in the industry visit accompanied by Jaccie Koh, Industry Partnership lecturer, and Afdhal Izan Yasin, Scholarship and Study Loan Officer from the Student Services Department. ICS was honoured to be the first higher education institution to attend the industrial visit, which was at the invitation of SICC.

The group was taken on a tour to explore the newest and largest convention centre in Sabah, with an in-depth look at the multifunctional world class facilities and its modern structural building which was led by Marie Mansuet, Assistant Director of Sales of SICC, and Yusof Abdul Razak, Event Manager of SICC. This was followed by a career talk and sharing session with Suzi Kamalia, Talent & Culture Manager of SICC, and Azman Nain, Director of Convention & Housekeeping at SICC. The talk included an introduction about the organisation, departments, responsibilities, practices, and work culture. Apart from exploring the convention centre, the trip opened up opportunities for ICS to collaborate on employer projects as well as careers and internships with SICC in the future.

According to Jaccie, industry trips like this can become the first point of interaction for students with the industry.
“While this visit is a voluntary activity, we encourage students to take part so that they can obtain practical insights into industry operations and be exposed to the real scenarios. Additionally, the visit gives students a much needed break from their regular classes to engage and have fun while learning. They should take advantage of these lessons outside the classroom,” she said.

Meanwhile, SICC chief executive officer Datuk Hajah Rosmawati Haji Lasuki said they are always happy to welcome groups from educational institutions.
“Study trips like this give students better insight and knowledge on the ever-changing hospitality industry, especially in the operations of a convention centre as well as Business Events (BE). As the BE community in Sabah proactively explores opportunities and new platforms to promote Sabah Borneo as the latest BE destination, we also need to ensure that our services are at par with the international service standards. Institutions such as INTI play a big role in developing and grooming young talent to be industry ready and forward looking,” she said.
