We’ve heard and read stories about Malaysia’s oldest schools everywhere, and recently it’s become a top trend again. These schools are an epitome of rich heritage, history, values and practices passed down from generation to generation, and continue to make a difference in moulding a student’s outlook in life.
Ng Zheng Wei (standing, first from left) is currently pursuing his American Degree Transfer Programme at INTI International College Subang.
We too have students from two of Malaysia’s oldest schools who are currently pursuing their degree programmes at INTI International College Subang (INTI); Ng Zheng Wei and Sharvin Manivannan. Let’s take a look at what they had to say about their experiences studying in such historic schools then and chasing their dreams at INTI now.
Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Zheng Wei had the privilege to go to Confucian Private Secondary School, founded in 19061.
“That is a very long time ago, to be precise 114 years ago!” exclaimed Zheng Wei about his high school’s establishment in Malaysia.
Zheng Wei who is now pursuing the American Degree Transfer Programme at INTI is eager to fly to the United States (US) once the pandemic comes to an end.
“I’ve always wanted to live the American dream but with the ongoing crisis, I am reconsidering my options because the year 2020 has taught me to be flexible and accept every opportunity that comes my way,” said Zheng Wei.
Speaking about his high school, Zheng Wei shared, “Studying in one of Malaysia’s oldest schools has enabled me to widen my knowledge. When you are in such a prestigious school, you feel the magnificent heritage and tradition that has been passed down for over a century.”
In addition to a strong academic emphasis, Zheng Wei also added that the students participated in numerous festivals and activities, as it has been a culture of the school to organize these.
“I have to say that though the activities were tied back to the history of the school, I can confidently claim that these activities are still relevant today because it allows students to gain real world experiences,” expressed Zheng Wei.
“Graduating from an iconic school like Confucian Private Secondary School, I felt it was equally important for me to start my next phase in an established university, hence why INTI was my pick. Their years of experience and proven track record is evident from how the lecturers deliver their lessons and the positive vibe I experience on campus. I have learnt both in and out of the classroom through bootcamps, employer projects and sharing sessions held by the different faculties and INTI’s Career Services department,” Zheng Wei shared.
Sharvin Manivannan from Klang enjoys his workout regime especially after he started studying at INTI International College Subang.
Starting under a small roof in 1928 with only 62 students2, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tinggi Klang is also now one of Malaysia’s oldest school which strives to provide students with quality education and infrastructure.
Sharvin, a Bachelor of Information Technology (Network Design and e-Business) student at INTI, completed his high school education from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tinggi Klang, a well-known school to many around the Klang Valley.
Studying in a school that has been around for nearly a century, Sharvin shared the one of a kind practice that the school has maintained all those years.
“There is a habit we practice at school – students who have found money lying idly around the school vicinity are advised to hand over the money to the discipline counselor. In return, their names will be announced the next morning during assembly as a token of appreciation. The money that is accumulated will be given to those students in need in the form of food, for free!” Sharvin shared enthusiastically.
Sharvin credits his amazing teenage years to the incredible memories he accumulated in school.
“The extra-curricular classes, clubs and sports was a complete package for my friends and I. Our teachers were awesome as they guided us through every step of one of our most important phases in life,” said Sharvin.
Today, Sharvin attributes his maturity and responsible behavior to the good practices his high school has instilled in him. He strongly agrees with the fact that the school is one of Klang Valley’s most respected educational institutions, due to the efforts taken by the school to nurture her students with great values.
His journey with INTI began in 2018 and his keen interest in information technologies and networking was his main reason to pursue the degree programme he is enrolled in now.
“INTI provides students a great platform to learn from leading industry experts. Moreover, the vibrant student life motivates me to continuously do better in my studies and personal life,” expressed Sharvin.
“In addition to motivating me in my studies and personal life, my time at INTI has encouraged me to look better too. I have now started working out and I got to thank INTI for that!” joked Sharvin.
