A lifeline to higher education has been extended to 450 INTI International College Penang (IICP) students through INTI scholarships to the tune of RM1.8 million.

 

At a scholarship and academic award presentation ceremony held at Hotel Equatorial, the scholarship recipients were presented with competitive, merit or achievement-based awards to undertake studies across multiple disciplines at IICP.

 

The INTI-Laureate Merit Scholarship, awarded to 260 recipients, is a scholarship for students with outstanding academic performance. Recipients are eligible for tuition fee waiver of up to 100% for any programme of study at IICP.

 

Other scholarships presented during the ceremony included the INTI X-Cellence Scholarship for those with proven leadership qualities and a record of having actively served their schools and community; the INTI Sports X-cellence Scholarship for students who excel in sports; the INTI Chairman Award for qualified Bumiputra students; the INTI Community Award for students from selected townships to pursue their tertiary studies; the INTI Family Loyalty Award for new students who have a sibling currently studying at INTI or who has graduated from INTI; the INTI Progression Scholarship for students who have completed one programme at INTI and are progressing to a higher level programme at INTI; the Tan Yew Sing Bursary and the INTI Award for Outstanding Students.

The ceremony also saw the presentation of academic awards to 166 students for outstanding academic achievement. These included the President’s List, Dean’s List and Excellence Award. The TAFE NSW State Medal – the single highest honour awarded to students by TAFE NSW, the largest vocational education and training provider in Australia and one of the best in the world – was presented to Lim Lean Li.

 

“At IICP, the value of education is measured not just by the merits of academic achievement but more importantly, we emphasize on a well-rounded learning experience through sports and community service,” said Dr Michael Yap, Chief Executive of INTI International College Penang. “Beyond this, ensuring the employability of our graduates is also part of our endeavour, through our ongoing initiatives of bringing industry into the classroom that will help students adapt seamlessly to the real working environment and be assets to their employers.
