INTI International College Subang (IICS) welcomed YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (KUSKOP), and representatives from Institut Keusahawanan Negara (INSKEN) on 8 July 2025 for the official launch of The Changemakers @ IICS, an initiative designed to cultivate student-driven social entrepreneurship.
Social enterprises are not just businesses — social enterprises address social or environmental issues, whether by empowering underserved communities, creating inclusive job opportunities, tackling environmental challenges, or promoting ethical business models” stated by YBTM Dato Sri Ramanan on his opening remarks.
Part of the University Community Social Enterprise (UCSE) programme under the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), the initiative supports universities integrating real-world social enterprise experiences into student life. At IICS, The Changemakers offers students opportunities to tackle community issues through practical, sustainable, and value-based actions.
A key feature of the launch was the introduction of Kotak Cantik, the college’s first student-led social enterprise under the programme. The initiative supports underserved communities in Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) areas by distributing hygiene kits to B40 families. In doing so, it raises awareness of hygiene-related issues while giving students hands-on experience in planning and delivering social impact.
“This afternoon marks a proud moment—not just for launching The Changemakers, but also for debuting our first student-led social venture,” said Dr. Jane Lim, Chief Executive of IICS. “I remember when this idea first came from our MPU team and a small group of students. It began as a conversation about doing something that extended beyond the classroom, something that connects, helps, and solves. By August last year, the team had already secured grants and sponsorships from industry partners. That early belief made a real difference.
“The Changemakers is more than a project—it’s a platform for social innovation, created by students, supported by educators, and strengthened by the community. We hope it grows into something bigger, something that inspires young entrepreneurs to build businesses that serve a greater purpose.”
YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan commended the effort, stating, “Our nation has launched numerous initiatives to prepare and nurture future leaders who are not only academically capable but also empathetic, entrepreneurial, and socially conscious.”
Held alongside the launch was the INSKEN Entrepreneurial Seminar, which brought together students, educators, and industry speakers to discuss sustainable business practices and responsible entrepreneurship. More than 200 students participated in both the launch and seminar, reflecting growing interest in building community-rooted enterprises among Malaysian youth
