More than 300 students at INTI International College Penang have achieved a remarkable feat by raising RM11,000 to support the noble effort of Global Ehsan Relief Malaysia in building water wells and pumps in Sri Lanka. The funds were collected through the H2O 4U Carnival, which was organized by lecturers and students studying the Mata Pelajaran Umum (MPU) subject.
In a ceremony held on July 11th, Hemalatha Murugiah, Chief Executive of INTI International College Penang, presented a mock cheque for the amount to Encik Muhammad Yamin, the Country Manager of Global Ehsan Relief Malaysia. This marked a significant step towards improving access to clean water in the region.
The H2O 4U Carnival project manager, Zakiah Abul Khassim, expressed how providing clean water can make a profound difference in the lives of others. She said, “Imagine for a moment and smile, as we drink clean water here, a few thousand miles away in Sri Lanka, there are people enjoying the same quality of clean water as we are, and in their hearts, they are grateful to the donors.”

According to Zakiah, this initiative not only contributes to United Nations Sustainable Goal 6 (SDGs), which ensures access to clean water and sanitation for all, but it also allows the students to enhance their entrepreneurial skills, foster teamwork, and develop their leadership abilities.
She noted that the event helped students gain skills in accounting, management, event organizing, PR, marketing, entrepreneurial skills, and even improved their interethnic relations. “I am also confident that this event has strengthened the bonds among your classmates and created many wonderful moments. Most importantly, we had a great time and enjoyed the carnival,” she added.

Zakiah expressed her pride in the collaborative spirit of INTI lecturers, students, and the generous supporters from Global Ehsan Relief Malaysia. Together, they raised an impressive RM11,000, which will fuel transformative projects in Sri Lanka. These funds will be directed toward the construction of three community water wells, each equipped with six taps.
Initiatives such as this embody the core values of INTI, reflecting a commitment to knowledge, entrepreneurship, and a shared aspiration for fostering positive change. INTI Penang remains steadfast in its dedication to cultivating future leaders who understand the importance of giving back to society and leaving a lasting positive impact on a global scale.
