INTI International College Penang gathered over 200 participants from academia and industry on 17 May 2025 for its Academic Conference 2025. Themed “Advancing Intellectual Engagement and Employability,” the event focused on research, innovation, and bridging education with workforce needs.
Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Wong Hon Wai, opened the conference with a keynote, calling for stronger collaboration between institutions and high-growth sectors.
“Penang is not just an industrial hub—it’s a hub of ideas, innovation, and education,” he said.
“Institutions like INTI are key to equipping our young people with the skills needed in the digital economy.”
He urged greater investment in talent and closer ties with industries such as semiconductors, digital technology, and creative content.

INTI International College Penang Chief Executive Hemalatha Murugiah highlighted the need for education to match industry realities.
“We believe academic excellence must go hand-in-hand with real-world relevance,” she said. “This conference encourages students and faculty to explore critical issues, propose innovative ideas, and engage directly with industry.”
She added that INTI aims to nurture lifelong learners prepared to adapt and lead.
“We want our graduates to be thinkers and problem-solvers—academically strong and ready to shape the future.”
The conference featured presentations from students and faculty across various disciplines, including engineering, IT, business, and social sciences. Panel discussions examined how technology is reshaping job markets and how research can address real-world challenges.
Topics included startup development and sustainability—areas aligned with INTI’s focus on practical outcomes and long-term impact.
“Our focus isn’t just classroom learning,” Hemalatha added. “It’s about preparing students to engage meaningfully with the world from day one.”
