Two brothers from INTI International College Penang delivered a standout performance at the Kejohanan Tinju Pesta Pulau Pinang, clinching Gold and Bronze at Dewan Arena 3, Tapak Pesta Pulau Pinang.

Organised by Majlis Sukan Negeri Pulau Pinang, the five-day championship from 4 to 8 January 2026 featured more than 40 boxers competing across standard amateur divisions ranging from 46–48kg up to 92kg. The tournament drew state and regional contenders and remains one of Penang’s key annual boxing meets.

Competing in his respective weight division, Jayven A/L Ramaesh, 21, secured the gold medal after progressing through multiple elimination rounds, ultimately prevailing on points in the final following a composed and tactically disciplined performance.

Younger brother Nayven A/L Ramaesh, 19, advanced to the semi-final stage in his category to secure Bronze, navigating a competitive bracket that required at least two bouts en route to the podium.

Under the amateur boxing format used at the tournament, bouts were decided either by judges’ points or referee stoppage (RSC), depending on the outcome. Both brothers demonstrated technical maturity and ring control throughout their campaigns.

“It felt like all the preparation finally came together in the ring,” said Jayven, a Bachelor of Media and Communication student.

“This tournament was a step up in intensity. It pushes me to refine my technique and raise my standards,” added Nayven, who is pursuing a Diploma in Business.

In preparation for the championship, the brothers underwent a 10-day intensive training camp in Thailand under Penang Boxing Team Head Coach Johnny Kasiran. The programme focused on conditioning, structured fight management and advanced sparring exposure.

“The Thailand camp sharpened their discipline and tactical execution,” said Johnny. “They now fight with patience and structure, not just instinct.”

The Penang Pesta championship serves as an important evaluation platform within the state boxing calendar and contributes to talent identification for SUKMA selection. Both athletes are currently included in Penang’s SUKMA preparation squad and will continue structured state-level training ahead of upcoming trials later this year.

Balancing academic commitments with competitive training remains part of their routine.
“Managing assignments, exams and training requires discipline,” the brothers said. “Consistency is key, especially during competition periods.”

Chief Executive of INTI International College Penang Hemalatha Murugiah said the achievement reflects the institution’s support for holistic student development.

“We are proud to see our students competing and succeeding at the state level while maintaining academic focus,” she said.

Following their performance at the Penang Pesta championship, the brothers will continue training with the Penang squad as they prepare for the upcoming SUKMA selection trials later this year.
