October 10, 2024

INTI’s annual Industry Advisory Board (IAB) bridges education and the ever-evolving demands of the job market. By bringing together industry leaders and experts, the event aims to ensure that students have the skills and mindset needed to thrive in today’s competitive world.

The IAB session on 2 October focused on Business and Mass Communication, covering areas such as accounting, psychology, mass communication, and marketing. The panel featured professionals from HSBC Bank, BFM Radio, Sony Music, and entrepreneurial INTI alumni. Dr. Jane Lim, Chief Executive of INTI International College Subang, opened the session by emphasising the university’s commitment to empowering students: “By equipping our students with these skills, we empower them to become proactive leaders who can drive positive change not only for themselves but also within their communities and beyond.” Her words emphasised the institution’s dedication to fostering well-rounded professionals ready to make a meaningful impact.

Dr. Jane Lim, Chief Executive of INTI International College Subang, emphasised that INTI’s goal is not just to keep pace with change but to empower students to lead in an ever-evolving landscape as she opened the IAB session.

The three-hour session brought a series of lively discussions on key themes shaping the future of education:

The Importance of Data Skills

Panelists highlighted the growing role of data in every industry, stressing the need for students to master data analysis and management. These skills are crucial for making informed decisions, solving problems, and driving growth. Participants noted that familiarity with data tools is essential for business operations and crafting effective social media strategies.

Building a Resilient Mindset

Beyond technical abilities, the session addressed the importance of cultivating resilience and a strong work ethic among students. Some panellists expressed concerns about the readiness of young professionals, suggesting a greater emphasis on competitive learning environments and mental health support. There was a call to actively involve the counselling department in helping students develop a mindset to navigate setbacks and thrive in demanding situations.

Harnessing AI Responsibly

The discussion also touched on the use of artificial intelligence (AI). While AI offers many advantages, there were concerns about overreliance on technology potentially stifling creativity and critical thinking. Panelists advocated teaching students to view AI as a tool for enhancing innovation rather than replacing their problem-solving abilities.

These discussions reflect an ongoing effort to reshape education based on practical insights from industry experts. The IAB session reinforced the need for a dynamic curriculum that evolves with industry changes, focusing on developing skilled, adaptable graduates ready to contribute meaningfully locally and globally.

Industry leaders in mass communication generously shared their expertise during the session, helping to refine INTI’s approach to education and better prepare students for real-world challenges.
