Experience Well Applied in INTI Duo’s Dashboard Design Success

March 11, 2013

An innovation-driven, global-oriented and career-focused learning experience at INTI that in the past year had incorporated 125 projects by employers such as IOI Corporation, Poney, TNT and HP has enabled INTI’s students to shine and succeed, including in the Malaysia finals of the SAP Dashboard Design Competition 2012.

Competing against strong teams from reputable higher education institutions in the country, Bryan Lim Wen Zhou and Vulcan Gui Ming Sian from INTI International University emerged in the top 3 spot after creating an interactive dashboard that impressed the judges.

“Numerous employer projects in addition to our regular coursework in the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Network and Mobile Computing programme had given us valuable experience and the confidence to do well in the competition,” said Bryan whose portfolio includes network, graphic and website design for TNT, Padini and GRM respectively.

The competition required participants to use data given by SAP, a leading provider of business management software solutions and services, to create an interactive dashboard to analyze the Olympic Summer Games results from 1996 to 2012.

“Experience taught us to apply simplicity and clear data presentation in our design. Keeping straight to the point certainly worked for us!” said Vulcan, who together with Bryan won a cash prize of USD 400, a trophy and certificates.

Che Fuzlina Mohd Fuad, the students’ supervising lecturer remarked that she was pleased that the students had taken their own initiatives to learn and develop new skills on top of their busy study schedules. “Minimal coaching was provided which makes their success in the competition even more impressive,” she said.
