Striving for Excellence Amid Global Challenges

November 25, 2020

2020 has been no walk in the park for most industries, not least of all the education sector. Amid recurring spikes of COVID-19 infections forcing governments to close learning institutions and borders, educators and students have had their work cut out for them in adapting to fully online learning and navigating the challenges involving access to digital networks, devices, platforms, training and mobility.

INTI International University in Nilai boasts a student and staff body from over 60 nationalities, lending to its dynamic culture and perspectives

Despite a rollercoaster year, INTI International University is proud to have been officially ranked in the 2021 QS World University Rankings: ASIA for the first time ever.

The QS World University Rankings: ASIA have been published since 2009. The method retains key indicators of the global ranking, such as Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, and Faculty to Student Ratio, but also considers a set of performance metrics carefully tailored for the region.

Categorised as a young institution – with just 10 years’ establishment since it was awarded university status – INTI ranked high in the International Students and International Faculty indicators. This is reflective of INTI’s student and faculty bodies with representatives from more than 60 countries, that enriches the diversity of perspectives and cultures found within the university.

INTI also had emerging scores for Employer Reputation, a key focus area for the university which partners with over 450 employers in integrating practical industry experiences throughout its curriculum, and empowers students to achieve outstanding employability outcomes.

“It’s always exciting to welcome new and young universities into the rankings, and to be a part of their development journey as they leverage the indicators to develop their capabilities and rise up the ranks,” shared Dr. Andrew MacFarlane, Rankings Manager, QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

“Despite the disruption caused by the ongoing pandemic, our continued engagement with the higher education sector indicates that pursuing a quality education remains at the forefront of prospective students’ minds. We hope to continue to provide those students with the independent data and insight necessary to help them make the right decision for them – even more so at this moment. Our community’s interactions with us suggest that our QS World University Rankings portfolio remains an important tool for those seeking to flourish in an uncertain, competitive world,” he explained.

Tan Lin Nah, CEO, INTI International University & Colleges enthused, “Being ranked for the first time, and that too during a global pandemic, is a welcome and significant achievement for us. Ranking high in the International Students and International Faculty indicators during a time when mobility and international student support are a real challenge throughout the world, also adds to the impact of this milestone.”

Although new in the rankings, INTI has been the recipient of other QS recognitions including 5 Stars for Facilities, Inclusiveness and Employability in the 2019 QS Stars Ratings, and 5 Stars for Online Learning in the 2020 QS Stars Ratings.

While we’ve grown in our strengths over the last 10 years, we are always looking to new partnerships, new opportunities and new ways of enriching student and faculty experiences. Beyond offering recognised qualifications, we endeavour to provide the foundations, exposure and pathways that will enable students to pursue their aspirations, whatever these may be,” shared Dr Joseph Lee, Vice Chancellor of INTI International University.

“Making it into the QS World University Rankings also serves as a timely recognition of the continuous efforts made by our teams, and provides us encouragement in remaining resilient as we continue to collaboratively grow our institution and showcase all its incredible capabilities,” he concluded.
