A group of students from INTI International College Subang’s School of Business and Communication (SBC) demonstrated the power of empathy in action through a heartfelt outreach to Yi Xing Elderly House in USJ 2 on 23 April 2025.

SBC students and lecturers organised donations of essentials at Yi Xing Elderly House to support residents’ daily needs.
Carried out under the initiative Compassion in Action, the students raised RM1,000 on their own to purchase necessities for the home’s 26 residents. The items, including cooking oil, Milo, cereals, toilet paper, body lotion, and adult diapers, offered more than daily comfort. For many of the elderly, some bedridden or neglected, the donations were a reminder that they had not been forgotten.
Beyond the supplies, the SBC Student Ambassadors—representing the Diploma in Business, Diploma in Mass Communication, and Certificate in Business Studies programmes—brought companionship and conversation to the residents. Sitting with them, the students listened to stories, shared laughter, and created moments of connection that left a lasting impact.
One of the most moving moments of the day came when Diploma in Business student Faith Tan En Hui performed two familiar tunes on the violin—Malaysia’s folk classic Rasa Sayang and the beloved Chinese ballad The Moon Represents My Heart. The performance stirred emotions, with many residents smiling through tears.

Lecturer Dr. Kevin Chuah, who oversaw the initiative, commended the students’ efforts. “Our civic and moral responsibility is to care for the elderly. I am immensely proud of our students for embodying the values of compassion and leadership through meaningful action.”
Tan Yi Feng, a Certificate in Business Studies student, added, “I hope more young people will take the time to connect with the elderly. It’s easy to overlook them, but they still have much to share.”
More than a one-time effort, Compassion in Action reflects INTI’s broader commitment to developing socially responsible graduates. By encouraging students to engage with real-world challenges, the initiative shows how education can extend beyond the classroom, building empathy, leadership, and a deeper connection to the community.
