For most students, the Cambridge International AS Level examinations require months of preparation, focus, and discipline. At INTI International College Penang, two students took on that challenge and emerged among the best in the world.
Yeap Wei Han and Teoh Ke Yi, from INTI’s Centre of Excellence for Pre-University Studies (CEPS), have been named Top in the World for AS Level Mathematics in the June 2024 exam series. Yeap Wei Han also earned the Best Across Four Cambridge International AS Levels award, a recognition given to students who achieve the highest marks across multiple subjects.

The Dedication Behind the Achievement
For Wei Han, excelling in Mathematics was more than memorising formulas—it was about understanding their logic.
“Consistent practice and discussions with friends helped me break down difficult concepts,” he shared. “My lecturers, especially my Further Mathematics lecturer, provided clear explanations and well-structured materials that helped me prepare.”
Ke Yi credited her success with self-discipline, peer discussions, and lecturer guidance.
“Practicing past papers was a huge part of my preparation. Math competitions also played a big role in strengthening my problem-solving skills,” she explained.
Despite the intense preparation, she made it a point to maintain a balanced routine, recognising that taking breaks was just as important as studying.
Both students are now looking ahead to university—Wei Han plans to pursue Electrical and Electronics Engineering, while Ke Yi is setting her sights on Computer Science, combining her love for Mathematics with technology.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
For INTI, student success goes beyond exam results. The Cambridge A-Level Programme is designed to build strong academic foundations while nurturing critical thinking and independent learning. Small class sizes, interactive lessons, and personalised mentoring ensure students receive the support they need.
Tan Bee Hooi, Head of Programme for CEPS, highlighted that consistency was key to success.
“Both students remained highly focused throughout their studies. They were engaged in lessons, sought help when needed, and put in the effort outside of class,” she said.
The programme also emphasises exam techniques and strategic preparation, helping students apply their knowledge effectively rather than relying on rote memorisation.
“We always encourage students to attempt at least five years’ worth of past-year papers,” Ms. Tan noted. “This helps them recognise patterns in questions and approach problems with confidence.”
A Tradition of Academic Excellence
INTI has built a strong track record of academic excellence, with one-third of its A-level students consistently achieving three or more A’s since 2015. The Cambridge A-Level qualification is internationally recognised, providing students greater opportunities for university placements and scholarships worldwide.
Wei Han and Ke Yi’s achievements are more than just awards. They represent discipline, resilience, and the ability to tackle challenges head-on—qualities that will serve them well as they take the next step in their academic journey.
