INTI International College Penang, AMD Penang, and global hunger relief organisation Rise Against Hunger collaborated on 15 October 2024 to tackle food insecurity in Malaysia. Over 380 volunteers—314 from AMD and 68 from INTI—came together to package 56,000 meals at the college. These meals will be distributed to families in remote areas of northern Malaysia, targeting communities in critical need.

The event aimed to raise awareness about hunger and provide tangible relief to areas classified as “serious” or higher on the Global Hunger Index. By focusing on these vulnerable regions, the initiative ensured that aid reached families facing severe food insecurity.
“This initiative reflects INTI’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible individuals by giving students real-world opportunities to give back to society,” said Hemalatha Murugiah, Chief Executive of INTI International College Penang. She commended the collaboration with AMD and Rise Against Hunger and praised the enthusiastic participation of INTI students in the effort.

Terry Thor, Finance Manager at AMD, described the event as a meaningful partnership. “It united enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to make a tangible difference in the fight against hunger,” he said. Thor also highlighted the dual impact of the initiative, noting, “For the community, it provided essential meals to those in critical need. For AMD, it reinforced our commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, aligning with the objectives of our Day of Service.”

For volunteers, the experience was transformative. Marisa Chong, a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) student at INTI International College Penang, reflected on the event’s impact: “This experience helped me appreciate the importance of giving back by understanding the effort behind initiatives like Rise Against Hunger. Knowing these meal packs will help needy families motivates me to continue supporting such causes.”
Someshwar Rao, a student from INTI International College Penang’s School of Computing, shared a similar sentiment. “The energy and teamwork during the event were inspiring. It was more than just packaging meals—it was about coming together to make a difference. I feel humbled knowing our efforts will directly impact families in need.”
The event brought INTI alumni at AMD together with current students, reflecting the strong connections between the institution and its graduates. The collaboration delivered tangible support to needy families, highlighting the impact of working together to address pressing challenges.

The lanyard’s popularity underscored the impact of thoughtful design and strategic engagement. The team demonstrated how creative ideas and effective collaboration can leave a lasting impression by bringing Babes Society onto campus.
