The discussion highlighted emerging opportunities in areas such as renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, automation, robotics, and sustainable design. With the rise of Industry 4.0 and digitalisation, mechanical engineers are increasingly involved in smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence applications, and integrated design systems. These developments open up new pathways for employability, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
At the same time, the session addressed key challenges faced by the profession. Engineers are required to continuously upgrade their skills to keep pace with rapid technological changes. The growing integration of digital tools also calls for knowledge in areas such as data analysis, programming, and systems integration. In addition, graduates must demonstrate strong soft skills, including communication, leadership, and adaptability, to remain competitive in a global job market.
The KTP programme showed strong impact, with 92% of participants reporting improved understanding of the topic. Additionally, 71% expressed interest in further exploring the field, indicating positive engagement and relevance of the session.
Overall, the programme provided valuable insights into the future of mechanical engineering, helping participants better understand both the opportunities and challenges in the profession while encouraging continuous learning and career development.
