It was an unforgettable occasion for INTI International University to witness the conferment of Emeritus Professor Dr Lim Ho Peng during the INTI International University Convocation Ceremony on the 7th April 2022. Professor Dr Lim Ho Peng has significantly contributed to the vast progress and success of INTI International University during his tenure at the institution. He is one of the key players and pioneers in the establishment of INTI as a successful brand in private education.
Professor Dr Lim has been in the education industry for nearly five decades in both the government and private sectors. In 1966, he began his career as a secondary school teacher at a government school and later continued his journey with a public higher education institution as an English lecturer at University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1974 and retired from UKM in 1995 as an Associate Professor cum Deputy Dean of the Language Center.
Upon retirement, Professor Dr Lim went on to serve as an academician in the private higher education sector. He began his journey as a Dean of the Centre for Language Studies at INTI International College Subang before taking on the role of Dean of the School of Languages and Liberal Arts at INTI International University, which was formerly known as INTI College Malaysia. Along the way, he was appointed as Vice President of the Academic Affairs Division prior to retiring from INTI International University in December 2015. His former fondly remember his leadership style where ‘integrity’, ‘discipline’ and ‘inclusivity’ were paid importance to. He had the heart for the personal growth of anyone he came into company with and special attention was given to academic and student matters. Today many of his staff and stuents have spread their wings around the world and are successful in their chosen fields.
Professor Dr Lim has served in many organisations and community service initiatives, actively contributing his time, energy, and knowledge in these programmes. As an academician, Professor Dr Lim garnered prestigious accolades and awards globally throughout his years of service. He was a recipient of the National Outstanding Educator Award, besides receiving 15 other academic awards from local and international bodies for his work and accomplishments.
His brief message to all graduating students is that the English language is and will always be a key subject in their lifelong learning process. He further added “… the more responsible the post you hold, the more you need to be competent in English to be a clear “transmitter” confidently and proficiently communicating your message, your ideology, and your philosophy across to your audience”.
