Applied Mathematics Virtual Symposium

Aim to expose students and researchers to the applications of mathematics not just in pure math but also in finance field, INTI International University’s Faculty of Business and Communications organized the virtual symposium “Applied Mathematics: Are you up to the challenge?” on 3rd October.

The symposium speakers Dr. Ahmad Danial Zainudin and Dr. Nura Lina Md Elias, senior finance lecturers from Universiti Teknologi MARA, spoke about the needs for financial practitioners and students to applied mathematics in their respective fields.

Dr. Ahmad spoke about the usage of mathematics in different fields, for example, hedging is a strategy used to mitigate financial risks such as buying insurance, and purchasing investments.

He also touched on the prospects of students’ finances like job opportunities after their studies.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nura focused on financial literacy and personal investments. She taught the audience how to balance their money properly and calculate the percentage of debts and savings based on their monies.

In response to a question from participants, Dr. Ahmad mentioned some software that could be useful in finance areas or to enhance financial data such as EView, RStudio, and SmartPLS.

Among attendees, 60 participants were from INTI International University degree, diploma, and master’s finance courses.
