Enhancing Senior Safety Through Community Care

Enhancing Senior Safety Through Community Care is a community outreach programme conducted at Mercy Home Temiang with the aim of improving senior safety, health, and overall well-being. The event began at 9:00 a.m., with activities organised across three groups, each assigned to different houses within the care facility.

The programme focused on conducting comprehensive fall risk assessments among elderly participants. These assessments considered physical, environmental, and medical factors that may contribute to fall risks. Based on the findings, personalised recommendations were provided to help reduce risks and improve mobility, safety, and daily functioning.

In addition, grocery supplies were distributed to support the nutritional needs of the residents. This initiative helped ensure access to essential food items while also promoting comfort and well-being among the elderly community.

The programme also included simple physical fitness assessments and interactive activities. These sessions encouraged participation, supported physical health monitoring, and created opportunities for social engagement through fun and meaningful interaction.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), the initiative promoted healthy ageing while providing students with hands-on learning experience in physiotherapy practice and community-based rehabilitation.

Overall, the programme successfully combined health assessment, education, and community support, contributing to both senior safety and student learning in a meaningful and impactful way.
