
Resource Rescue and Community Engagement: DEd Field Experience with Muhibbah Food Bank Malaysia Society
The Doctor of Education (DEd) Programme at INTI International University collaborated with the Muhibbah Food Bank Malaysia Society to provide
On 18/1/2025, Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP) in the form of music
and learning activities was conducted at Kumpulan Anak Autisme Masjid
(KAMI) Kg Tunku, PJ led by Dr. Wong Shuen Da, organized by Pn. Salmah,
Principal of KAMI Playgroup. Other collaborators included Dr. Ng Khar
Thoe from INTI University and Dr. Nurul Nadiah Abdul Razak from
Universiti Malaya. Music listening activities has been proven to be
beneficial for autistic children, and the activities of the day helped the
autistic children to improve their spelling and mathematical abilities. They
listened to various music with different melodies and rhythms, as well as
utilized musical mnemonics to help them with their spelling and
mathematical abilities. In the end, they reported a higher level of cognitive
abilities in these areas as the program had assisted them to learn with a
fun way through music activities.
Benefit to the community:
1. The children participated in musical listening to diverse stimuli of
rhythm and melodies which enabled them to focus better in
learning basic mathematical skills.
2. The autistic children and parents have more awareness of the
impact of music and art on learning skills, which can be
empowering and useful for their educational journey.
3. Autistic children are introduced to the concept of musical
mnemonics, which have been proven to be highly effective in
increasing the cognitive abilities of autistic children in learning
spelling and mathematics
