Empowering Changemakers: ASEAN Social Business Conference 2021
International University introduced a groundbreaking initiative during the 3rd International Conference on Innovation & Technopreneurship
In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2019, a remarkable social business project was undertaken by diploma students from the Faculty of Business, Communications, and Law, in collaboration with the INTI-Yunus Social Business Centre and the Department of Social Welfare Negeri Sembilan. The objective was to inspire and empower girls from the Rembau Children Home by providing them with an opportunity to build a promising future for themselves.
The project involved enrolling the”girl’ from the Rembau Children Home into the Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant program, a partnership with Mary Kay (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. Through this initiative, the young girls were encouraged to believe in their abilities and realize their potential, demonstrating that they too could achieve success in life. The goal was to instill a sense of hope and determination in the girls, assuring them that a bright future awaited them despite their challenging circumstances.
All activities related to the program took place at INTI International University and were jointly organized by the students, the Mary Kay representatives, and the staff from the Department of Social Welfare. This collaborative approach aimed to create a supportive and nurturing environment for the girls to flourish. To further support their journey as Independent Beauty Consultants, the University generously funded RM500 for each of the girls. This financial assistance served as a steppingstone for them to kickstart their entrepreneurial venture with Mary Kay and offered them a chance to gain valuable skills and experiences in the business world.
Throughout the project, the girls not only learned about the beauty industry but also received valuable mentorship and guidance from experienced Mary Kay representatives. They were taught essential entrepreneurial skills, including sales techniques, communication, and self-confidence, which would benefit them in both their personal and professional lives.
By offering these girls a chance to dream, the Mary Kay Social Business Project 2019 demonstrated the power of collective effort in transforming lives and shaping a more inclusive and equal society. The project left a lasting impact on the girls, providing them with a renewed sense of self-belief and hope for a promising future full of opportunities. It was a testament to the spirit of International Women’s Day, showcasing how collaboration and empowerment could create positive change in the lives of young women, no matter their background or circumstances.
