A session on Recent Trends Shaping Computer Science and Data Analytics for Affordable and Clean Energy explored how Industry 4.0 technologies are transforming the energy sector. The discussion focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) in supporting Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
The session highlighted how smart technologies enable real-time monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and improved efficiency in energy systems. Through the integration of smart grids and renewable energy sources, AI-powered solutions can optimise energy consumption and reduce operational inefficiencies. In many cases, AI-driven energy management systems have been shown to significantly lower energy usage while improving overall system performance.
In addition, predictive maintenance using AI allows potential issues in energy infrastructure to be identified early, reducing downtime and maintenance costs. IoT sensors further enhance these capabilities by providing continuous data, enabling faster and more accurate adjustments in energy distribution.
The session also introduced innovative applications designed to support the visually impaired community. Functionality tests with users showed promising outcomes, including improved navigation, reduced dependence on caregivers, and enhanced safety in both urban and controlled environments. The system emphasises practicality, affordability, and adaptability, highlighting its potential for wider implementation.
University students who attended the session gained valuable insights into the connection between technology and sustainability. The discussion helped raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in advancing secure and sustainable solutions. The initiative is also expected to encourage greater student participation in future activities at INTI International University.
