Mass Communication covers a broad area of study that comprises the fields of advertising, media communication and public relations. Most businesses, non-governmental and govermental organizations, public and private companies require the services of Mass Communication graduates. The demand is high in Malaysia, which is good news for students looking to pursue a career in Mass Communication.

Our Mass Communication Program offers you an interdisciplinary foundation in the basic theory and skills necessary to become media practitioners and more informed media consumers. Interaction and the ability to communicate confidently and persuasively is the key focus of our communications program. Major fields of study include:

  • New Media
    New Media is a multidisciplinary study of emerging forms of media, digital information and new technology while still maintaining the traditional skills and work ethics of professional reporters, journalists, artists and designers.
  • Mass Communication
    This study is the practical application, structure, processes, aesthetics, responsibilities and effects of the mass media and the investigation of the role mass media has played, and continues to play on society and the individual.
  • Radio and Television (Broadcast Journalism)
    This study examines the history, theory, criticism, and nuts-and-bolts production practices of radio, television, and film.
  • Journalism
    A discipline of gathering, writing and reporting news, and also includes the process of editing and presenting news articles.
  • Advertising
    This study involves creative thought in planning, creating, producing and placing of ads (print) and commercials (broadcast). It includes theoretical and applied aspects of advertising, the design of both periodical and specialized publications.
  • Public Relations
    This study will help you develop decision-making, strategic management, and critical thinking abilities and acquisition of theoretical and research-based knowledge important for their success in the working world.
  • Electronic Media
    Learn the theoretical and applied aspects of electronic media such as digital audio and video, audio and video performance, field and studio production, video directing and engineering.

The broadcasting sequence consists:

1) Television Production
Learn about the history, theory, aesthetics, ethics, methods and practice of modern television production.

2) Television Journalism
This focuses on the writing and production of modern television, the newsroom environment, historic journalistic traditions, imperatives, ethics, and production where critical knowledge about news anchoring is emphasised.

3) Radio
Gain the technical skills and knowledge of the history and the development of modern radio broadcasting, from news, sports and entertainment programming to community and alternative radio services.
